Course Summary
This course will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to assess the performance of all types of business organisations. It will enable you to effectively analyse and evaluate financial data which can be used to make judgements, decisions and recommendations about how a business can manage their financial affairs.
Accounting involves a number of technical skills that are required to gather and produce financial information. It will help build problem solving, decision making and communication skills.
The course is suitable for anyone who:
• Enjoys working with figures and problem solving.
• Is accurate with calculations.
• Is neat, methodical and logical.
• Has good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Course Details
Year 12 Students will develop knowledge and understanding of the following areas:
• Purpose, importance and consequence of effective financial accounting.
• Techniques to gather and produce financial statements and other relevant reports.
• How to analyse, interpret and communicate the results of financial information.
• How financial accounting helps in the measuring, monitoring and planning of successful business operations.
Year 13 Students will further develop their understanding of financial accounting techniques for businesses without a complete accounting system, for partnerships and for limited companies.
Students will also study in greater depth how accounting techniques aid business management and decision making. They will look at costing, capital investment, budgeting and sources of finance as well as considering social and ethical accounting issues.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Students will be given formal tests on a regular basis. Students will be expected to complete regular homework to develop knowledge and understanding of the subject material. There is no coursework.
Entry requirements
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
6 grade 5s (or equivalent), including at least a grade 5 in English Language or Literature and at least a 5 in your chosen subject if studied at GCSE.
5 or above in Maths.

Accounts is a very specialised A Level. It requires determination and hard work to pass as you’re learning the basics of a professional career. It is not suitable for someone with a passing interest in business. It is suitable for someone who has a strong desire to become an accountant.
