Course Summary
This course will look at a range media including music video, print and TV advertising, newspapers, magazines, social media, video games, film and TV, and radio. Students will consider issues around audiences, representation, industry, social and historical contexts, and meaning. If you enjoy analysing media texts and writing about Media case studies, then this course will allow you to develop these skills. As well as testing literacy and analytical skills there is a large practical element to the course. The coursework element allows you to show your creativity by making moving image and print based work.
Course Details
Component 1: Section A, Analysing Media Language and Representation. Section B, Understanding Media Industries and Audiences.
Component 2: Media forms and Products- Television in the Global Age, Magazines: Mainstream and Alternative Media, Media in the Online Age
Component 3: Individual cross-media production in response to a choice of briefs applying knowledge and understanding of the theoretical framework and digital convergence.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Entry requirements
6 grade 5s (or equivalent), including at least a grade 5 in English Language or Literature.
At least a 5 in the relevant subject if taken.

The course is particularly suitable if you are interested in a career in the media or studying any media related courses at university. The course contains some very independent units which requires students to demonstrate organisational skills, creativity and flair in producing real life media products for various different forms of media.
