Course Summary

Philosophy and Ethics at JC6 allows students with enquiring minds to ponder some of the big questions in life: Is there a God? How did the universe come about? What is right and wrong? Why do pain and suffering exist? Do miracles really happen?

Philosophy and Ethics combines well with other humanities, science and mathematics based subjects, encouraging you to develop essay writing and discussion skills, an enquiring mind and a reflective approach to learning. It is a useful qualification for progression to a wide range of university courses and career pathways.

Course Details

The course is challenging: we explore the views of philosophers and religious thinkers as well as your own interpretations. You will look at ethical theories and at applied ethics, covering such topics as euthanasia, environmental ethics, sex and relationships, genetic engineering and war, peace and justice. You need to be prepared to question, think, criticise, analyse and take on board a wide range of ideas and opinions.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment: by end of course exams.
