Course Summary

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and experience. It is the study of you, of who you are and why you do what you do. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of psychological theories and studies and enhance your critical thinking skills. Students are encouraged to apply what they have learnt in class to real life issues such as criminal behaviour, eating disorders and obedience to authority. You will carry out investigations in areas such as criminal behaviour, sex and gender and perception.

Course Details

Our research shows that students who study ‘A’ level Psychology along with science or other academic ‘A’ levels are more likely to achieve a high grade in Psychology. You may be able to go on trips and attend seminars to further your understanding.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

All 3 exams at the end of the 2 years

1. Introductory topics in psychology – Social influence, memory and attachment and Psychopathology

2. Psychology in context – Biopsychology, Approaches to Psychopathology, and Research Methods

3. Psychology issues and debates with the following options

a. Relationships

b. Schizophrenia

c. Forensic Psychology

All units have a 2 hour exam 3 in total

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English Language, as well as grade 5 and above in Maths and grade 5 in Science.
