If you're excited to start your career in the motor vehicle industry, this course is a great place to start.
The Accident Repair Body Principles Diploma level 1 is designed to teach you about the different roles in the motor vehicle body repair industry. This route allows you to have the flexibility to develop your knowledge and skills across a variety of specialist areas to prepare you for further studies on our level 2 diploma or an apprenticeship / job role in the future.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 (C) or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
Course Details
We have a very well-equipped modern vehicle repair and refinishing workshop along with mechanical repair workshops.
Throughout the course you will have access to a variety of advanced tools, equipment and repair techniques that enable you to gain a wide range of skills essential for the workplace.
The study programme involves you studying both the theory and practical aspects of vehicle body repairs and the Learner Employability Achievement Programme (LEAP), includes personal development and employability sessions, giving you an all-encompassing learning experience.
Some of the topics you will study include:
1. Health, safety and good housekeeping in an automotive environment
2. Supporting working relationships in an automotive environment
3. Introduction to vehicle technology and workshop methods and processes
4. Vehicle hand skills and manufacturing techniques
5. Removing and fitting non permanently fixed motor vehicle body panels
6. Removing and fitting of basic light vehicle mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components and non-permanently fixed vehicle body panels
7. Vehicle workshop bench skills
8. Basics of vehicle body fitting and vehicle mechanical electrical trim (MET)
9. Fundamental vehicle body repair techniques
10. Introduction to vehicle MAG welding techniques and vehicle resistance spot welding techniques
11. Valet vehicles.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The programme is designed to give you both theory and hands-on practical experience of carrying out accident repair procedures.
Teaching is delivered and assessed practically in the body/paint workshops, coupled with written assessments and online exams. Your tutors will provide theory explanations, practical demonstrations and guide you through all assessments, written, practical and online exams.
Entry requirements
Direct Entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance at your last place of study or work. Two GCSEs in English and maths at grade 2 or above is required, plus two further GCSEs at grade 2 or above.
If you are a progressing current student, you will need to have completed your entry level 3 Motor Vehicle study programme including both English and maths functional skills qualifications at entry level 3.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who hold a formal English and maths qualification at Level 1 minimum. An interview will be required to ascertain prior achievement.
All students will undertake a probationary period for the first six weeks of their programme. During this time, attendance, attitude, attainment and application towards study will be monitored. A final decision as to the most appropriate level and outcome will be discussed with you towards the end of your probationary period.
