AS Level : Drama and Theatre Studies

AS DRAMA: UNIT ONE: PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP

For this Unit candidates will either act in a group or contribute their chosen technical production skill to a performance from a set text and a devised piece. They will work on the ideas of TWO PRACTITIONERS.

AS DRAMA: UNIT TWO: TEXT IN PERFORMANCE

Two plays are studied from the perspective of an actor, designer and director. The same areas are studied through productions seen at the theatre.

AS UNIT 1: EITHER TWO PERFORMANCES OR DESIGN PROJECTS

Internally marked 40%

AS UNIT 2: A 2 HOUR WRITTEN EXAMINATION

Externally marked 60%

Exam Board: WJEC

Unit 1 is intended to enable all students to reach the same standard, so there is no need to have studied Drama at GCSE in order to start this Course.

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses that may be related to the performing arts or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Drama and Theatre Studies, which could lead onto higher education within the arts or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to the performing arts such as working in the Film, Television or Theatre industries. You may also like to look at joining a theatre group to increase your drama and theatre experience. The course offers a distinct subject content which provides you with the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers from lots of industries are looking for.
