Course Summary

This course is designed to reflect the demands of a truly modern and evolving political environment in the UK and around the world. At AS Level, students will study UK politics and government, which will give them a core knowledge and understanding of politics. Students will then develop this knowledge and understanding at A Level, and study three core political ideas and another from a choice of five. They then go on to study the government and politics of the USA.

Course Details

Year 12

Unit 1 – UK Politics: democracy, political parties, electoral systems and voting behaviour, the media.

Unit 2 – UK Government: the constitution, parliament, the Prime Minister, relationships between the different branches of government.

Year 12

Paper 1: UK Politics 1 hour 45 minute exam (50%)

Paper 2: UK Government 1 hour 45 minute exam (50%)

Entry requirements

5 Grade 4’s and above. Students embarking on this course must have an interest in current affairs.
