Course Summary
This BTEC Level 1 Diploma is designed for school leavers wishing to study sport, exercise or fitness but who has not yet achieved any formal qualifications.
This course will help you to develop transferable skills, sporting knowledge, literacy and numeracy, before progressing on to a Level 2 course or into employment.

- Working with Others
- Researching a Topic
- How Exercise Affects the Body
- Training for Fitness
- Playing Sport
- Coaching Skills in Sport
- Assisting in a Sports Activity
- Contribute to Running an Event
- Opportunity to resit GCSE Maths and/or English
- Work placement
You will also have opportunities to gain further qualifications, which complement your course. Assessment combines observed practical assessments, written reports, case studies, and worksheets.
Entry requirements
No GCSEs are required but you will need to attend lessons to develop your English and Maths skills.
Please note: This course is aimed at learners aged 16-18 and adult learners with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) identifying it as their chosen course. Adult learners are encouraged to contact Student Recruitment who will look at alternative Level 2 courses or if necessary Adult English and Maths courses that will enable them to join a Level 2 course afterwards.
Your next steps...
The course can lead onto Level 2 courses in Sport or employment within the industry.
After the Level 2 course has been completed, students can progress onto selected Level 3 Sport courses.
