Course Summary
This course focuses on the vocational aspects of Business so you will find a lot of teaching is based on case studies, application to a variety of different businesses, visiting speakers, role plays, and visits to industry. Students will need to keep up to date with the use of specialist journals and by reading quality broadsheet newspapers.
Course Details
There are two routes that can be chosen when studying Business at Level 3:
Route 1
Year 1 – Certificate; 2 units in one year
Year 2 – Extended Certificate; 2 units studied
Route 2
Year 1 – Extended Certificate; 4 units studied
Year 2 – Diploma; 4 units studied
The core units are:
•Exploring Business
•Developing a marketing campaign
•Personal and Business Finance
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Students will be assessed by a mixture of:
Assignments - set and marked internally
Tasks - set and marked by the exam board
Written exams - set and marked by the exam board
Entry requirements
To enrol for an A level programme we normally expect applicants to have achieved good GCSE passes in at least six subjects, these must:
• demonstrate the suitability for Advanced Level study
• have been achieved at Grade 4/C as a minimum
• include two at Grade 5/B as a minimum
Mathematics - If not achieved within the scope of the above should normally be achieved at grade 3/D. If mathematics is not achieved at grade 4/C then it will be a requirement to continue to study at the correct level until a grade 4 is achieved. Subjects with a mathematical content will require a higher grade.
In addition to the standard College entry requirements, this particular course requires students to have achieved grade 4 or above in GCSE Mathematics to be considered.

Level 3 courses earn you UCAS points and are therefore valued by universities allowing you to take on HND/ HNC, foundation degree course or honours degree. Students can go in to a wide range of employment including retail, finance, HR and marketing.

Where the Extended Certificate is selected, either an A level or Certificate may be studied alongside.
Equivalents
The Certificate is equivalent to half an A level, and the Extended Certificate is equivalent to 1 A level.
