Previous Leicester College students may only require a top-up tool kit at a reduced cost. Individuals will also require stationery. There is a materials fee applicable to this course. This qualification is for students aged 16-18 wanting to learn the basic skills and knowledge involved in Electrical Installation. The qualification covers a range of basic tasks and underpinning knowledge involved in electrical installation.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
Course Details
Through practical and theoretical study, you will cover the following to gain a good base knowledge of this area: structure of the construction industry; fundamental safe working practices; environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings; site preparation for working in the Construction Industry; electrical installation wiring and terminations; fabrication techniques for electrical installation; electrical science and technology.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment will be on a continual and assignment basis. Your progress will be monitored on a college system called Pro Portal that will enable you to track your progress against your goals and aspirations. All work will be graded and checked for content as well as grammatical errors. All work produced is designed to help the student grow in confidence during their learning programme. To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:
One externally set, externally moderated assignment (practical assessment)
One externally set externally marked exam sat under examination conditions.
There is also an employer involvement element to this qualification that is required in order to achieve the Technical Certificate.
Entry requirements
Standard entry to this course is one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate a minimum of 90% attendance at your last place of study. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 2 or above (E/F) plus two further GCSEs at grade 2 or above including a science or technology-based subject.
All students will undertake a probationary period for the first six weeks of their programme. During this time, attendance, attitude, attainment and application towards study will be monitored. A final decision as to the most appropriate level and the outcome will be discussed with you towards the end of your probationary period.
Your next steps...
Successful completion of a level 1 study programme enables you to progress on to the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Electrical Installation or the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma In Electrical Installation, which can lead to a higher level apprenticeship. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be recognised by the industry as �competent electricians�.
