Course Summary

This course is for students interested in a career in electrical installation. The course includes theory and practice and is designed as a starting point for those seeking to become trained electricians.The course covers the electrical industries, science for electricians, health and safety (including accident prevention), wiring, circuits, cabling, inspecting and testing, and customer service skills.The course can also be known as Level 2 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology (City & Guilds)2330.

Course Details

The course consists of three core units and one occupational unit. Units 1-4 are assessed by an online multiple choice theory test. Units 3 and 4 each have a practical element which will be assessed by a 10-hour practical assignment.

> Unit 2(202) Principles of electrotechnology
> Unit 3(203) Application of health and safety and electrical principlesOccupational Units
> Unit 4(205) Installation (Buildings & Structures)

Entry requirements

You must have a good general level of education including GCSE English and Maths (at least grade D) and preferably a GCSE in a science or technical subject. You should have an interest in electrical installations and be motivated to improve your English, mathematics and IT in order to succeed. You will need to have at least a level 1 qualification in literacy and numeracy. You will have an initial assessment at the college. You will need to fill in an application form and attend an interview, which will give you the opportunity to ask detailed questions about the course. Your next steps...

The next step is the 2330 level 3. To gain the full electrician certificate you will need the Level 2 and Level 3 technical certificates or an NVQ Level 3. Employment with an electrical contractor is required to achieve full electrician’s status.
