Course Summary

The Cambridge Technical Level 2 in IT is a practical, career-focused course that gives students a strong foundation in key digital skills, including:

IT systems, networking, cyber security, hardware and software installation, troubleshooting.

As well as technical support through a mix of hands-on units such as building PCs, setting up networks, installing software, and participating in real IT projects students develop both technical competence and professional skills like communication, teamwork and problem-solving.

The course prepares learners for Level 3 study, T Levels, apprenticeships or entry-level IT support roles, providing a broad and engaging introduction to the modern IT industry.


Course Details

This course covers a broad range of practical and theoretical IT skills through eight specialist units.

Students begin with the fundamentals in Essentials of IT and Essentials of Cyber Security, learning how digital devices, networks, data, online services and security measures operate in modern organisations.

They then progress into hands-on technical work in Building IT Systems, IT Hardware Installation and Upgrade, and IT Software Installation and Upgrade, where they design and build systems, install components, configure software and troubleshoot faults.

Networking skills are developed through Creating a Computer Network, which covers cabling, devices, IP addressing and connectivity testing.

Students also learn how to work effectively in teams through Participating in a Project, gaining experience in planning, reviewing and communicating project outcomes.

Finally, Using Emerging Technologies introduces learners to cutting-edge developments such as AI, IoT, automation and virtualisation, exploring their impact on business and society.

Together, these units provide a strong, industry-relevant foundation in IT systems, cyber security, networking, system building, technical support and digital innovation.
