Course Summary
In year one you will be required to complete seven assignments. The course is designed so that the evidence can overlap and you may be working towards one performance which will satisfy more than one criteria for assessment. You will be focusing on Physical Theatre, Singing, Acting, Movement and Dance. You will begin by gaining skills to be able to use in devising your own performance work and you will work together as a theatre company to rehearse, organise and promote your own shows.
In year two you will be required to complete six assignments. The course is designed so that the evidence can overlap and you may be working towards one performance which will satisfy more than one criteria for assessment.You will be developing the performance skills you gained in the Award and producing performance of a more sophisticated level. You will begin by gaining skills to be able to use in devising your own performance work and you will work together as a theatre company to rehearse, organise and promote your own shows.
Course Details
This is a vocational qualification which will make demands on your body and your brain. You will learn everything there is to know about the performing arts business, exploring and developing your performance skills, learning how to organise and put on a show from behind the scenes and presenting your own performance to an invited audience.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be encouraged to demonstrate your skills and talent by being assessed in practical ways with no written exams. You will be assessed solely through portfolio and performance by your teachers. Your work will be moderated by a visiting moderator.
Entry requirements
Five grade Cs at GCSE, or equivalent, including English Language OR a Level 2 dance qualification in a Performing Arts subject will be accepted as an alternative to a GCSE. Students without a GCSE grade 4 - 9 in English or Mathematics will be considered and supported for a re-take.
Your next steps...
The BTEC National Extended Diploma is the equivalent of 3 A Levels and can lead to further study in Drama, Theatre Studies, Dance and Performing Arts in Higher Education at Degree or HND Level. It can be used as part of your course to broaden your studies and may lead on to a career in the performing arts industries.
