Course Summary
This is an advanced Technical diploma. You will develop advanced practical skills and underpinning job knowledge relating to the advanced design and plumbing systems. This is a move from how systems are installed to why systems are installed. This programme is designed to equip students with the latest skills and knowledge needed to carry out installations, servicing and maintenance within the industry.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
Course Details
The plumbing advanced technical diploma level 3 is a design system knowledge orientated learning programme. The level 3 programme has a number of mandatory units that in combination will develop practical knowledge and theoretical understanding, to enable students to apply higher-level skills. You will study modules in cold water systems, hot water systems, sanitation and central heating systems.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the programme by your tutors to check your learning and underpinning knowledge of the subjects you will be undertaking. Practical assessments will also be tutor designed formative assessments to assess progress throughout the year.
To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following City Guilds assessments:
One externally set, externally moderated assignment (practical assessment)
One externally set externally marked exam sat under examination conditions.
There is also an employer involvement element to this qualification that is required in order to achieve the Advanced Technical Diploma.
Entry requirements
Entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate a minimum of 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. You will need to have successfully completed an appropriate level 2 plumbing study programme. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 or above, plus two other GCSEs, one of which must be a science or technical based subject. Consideration will be given to progressing students who are yet to attain a grade 4 GCSE in both maths and English.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who hold a formal English and maths qualification at Level 2 minimum but must have previously completed a level 2 plumbing programme.
Your next steps...
After this course, you may wish to continue onto a higher level qualification by studying for an HNC or HND in building engineering services. You could also apply for an apprenticeship to continue your learning. To gain qualified plumber status you will need to secure employment and complete an NVQ.
