Course Summary

This level 4 Diploma in Salon Management is a vocational course that will prepare you for a role as Salon Manager, with a qualification that is recognised as a requirement across the hair and beauty industry. Throughout your study, you will develop both the management and technical skills needed to do well in this role, without the need for any previous managerial experience. The course is full time and will require approximately 16 hours a week of attendance at college. They may also be a requirement to undertake self-directed study at home. The course is currently subject to approval.

Course Details

There are five mandatory units in this qualification, including: 1. Management of health, safety and security in the salon. 2. Quality management of client care in the hair and beauty sector. 3. Sales management in the hair and beauty sector. 4. Public relations in the hair and beauty sector. 5. Salon management. You will also have the opportunity to further develop your knowledge by choosing from a range of optional units including: 1. Managing and creating a male hairstyle collection 2. Managing and creating a female hairstyle collection 3. Laser and light treatments for hair removal 4. Laser and light treatments for skin rejuvenation

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be required to present a portfolio of evidence. Your tutor will provide guidance on how to prepare your portfolio and how to show the practical achievements and understanding required to successfully complete this qualification. Evidence in the portfolio may take the following forms: 1. Observed work 2. Witness statements 3. Audio-visual media 4. Evidence of prior learning or attainment 5. Written questions 6. Oral questions 7. Assignments 8. Case studies All evidence should be documented in a portfolio and cross-referenced to unit outcomes. You will have guidance and support from your tutors on this throughout the course.

Entry requirements

A level 3 qualification in either Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy or Media Make up is required. Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age. GCSE maths and English at grade 4 (C) or higher. A good record of attendance and a good reference from a tutor or employer. Current employment in a related industry is preferred but not essential.
