Course Summary

Do you have a passion for cars? Are you Interested in working in the automotive industry? If so, this could be the perfect course for you. Our ABC Level 2 Diploma in Motor Vehicle Studies is designed to develop your motor vehicle knowledge and practical skills across all light-vehicle technologies at an intermediate level. Candidates aged 16-18 will be enrolled on a Vocational Study Programme which will include work experience, an employability programme, and either Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English (depending on entry qualifications).

Course Details

The course is comprised of 5 core units � Automotive health and safety, Tools and equipment, Vehicle chassis systems, Vehicle electrics and Vehicle inspections. In our modern, well-equipped workshops you will learn how to safely carry out repair and maintenance on a wide range of training vehicles. In classroom/online-based theory sessions you will learn about theoretical principles for each automotive system. Throughout the course you will also undertake a Personal Social Development (PSD) programme which aims to equip you with range of transferable skills, including how to keep yourself safe, contribute to society and your local community, and communication teamwork skills. How will it be delivered and assessed?

For each of the 5 core units, you will develop essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Every 8 weeks you will undertake a series of practical (workshop based) and knowledge assessments.

Entry requirements

Direct entry to this course for requires GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 3 or above (or Functional skills at level 2), plus two other GCSEs at grade 3 or above including a science or technical based subject. It is also desirable that you can demonstrate a minimum 90% attendance record in your previous education or employment. A suitable Level 1 qualification or relevant industry experience is desirable but not essential. Progressing Learners will need to have successfully completed a Level 1 Diploma in Motor Vehicle Studies and completed any GCSE or Functional Skills learning aims included in previous course of study. Over this period, learners will also be required to demonstrate a minimum 90% attendance record and gain an acceptable reference from Programme Lead.

Upon successful completion of the course, your progression options may include Automotive / Engineering T-Level (or equivalent qualification) or employment in the motor trade as part of a national apprenticeship scheme. Throughout your time on the course, you will also be able to meet with our awarding winning Careers Team who will provide guidance and expertise to help you decide about your next steps.
