Course Summary
Our Spanish A Level is an integrated study with a focus on language, culture and society.
A range of transferable skills are fostered, including communication, critical thinking, research skills and creativity, which are valuable to the individual and society.
Students following this specification will develop their language knowledge, understanding and skills through:
- using language spontaneously
- listening and responding to spoken passages
- reading and responding to a variety of texts
- understanding the main points, gist and detail from spoken and written material
- inferring meaning from complex spoken and written material, including factual and abstract content
- summarising information from spoken and written sources, reporting key points and subject matter in speech and writing
- translating an unseen passage from Spanish into English, and from English into Spanish.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment:
The A Level comprises three compulsory assessment units:
Paper 1: Listening, Reading, Translation into English, and into Spanish (50% of final mark)
Paper 2: Written exam (2 questions based on a set film and set text.) (20% of final mark)
Paper 3: Oral exam (Individual Research Project, and discussion of a sub-theme.) (30% of final mark)
Entry requirements
Overall Entry Requirements:
6 GCSE's at grade 4 or above including an English and Maths.
Course Specific Entry Requirements:
Students need to achieve at least a GCSE grade 6 in Spanish.
Students will also need at least a GCSE grade 5 in English Literature due to the demands of the written paper.
