This Uniformed Protective Services course provides a positive step into industry-related employment or gives scope for further progression into higher education. During your studies you will also have the opportunity to join the police or army cadets, helping to broaden your experience and skillset for future employment.
Course Details
This is a one-year foundation diploma intended to provide you with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for work in the public service sector.
You will study up to 5 units covering a diverse range of material including; leadership and teamwork, outdoor and adventurous activities, expedition skills and physical preparation for entry into the public services. The units have been developed to assess personal learning and thinking skills across the qualification and prepare you for a career in any of the Uniformed Protective Services.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The main assessment for this course is through ongoing coursework, such as written essays, presentations, verbal interviews and practical assessment. There will also be an exam-based unit for each year of study.
Entry requirements
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English at grade 4 (C) or above is required, as well a four GCSE subjects at grade 4 (C) or above.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and Maths qualifications.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 (C) or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
Your next steps...
Upon successful completion, learners can progress on to the level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services. Learners may choose to progress into Higher Education or employment within the public service sector, for example, Police, Fire Service, Probation service, Prison service or Military services, such as the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
