Course Summary

Are you creative? Do you keep an eye on fashion trends and love talking to people? Then a full-time Hairdressing course at Heart of England Training could be for you. Unlike many other training providers and colleges, you will be learning at one of our commercial training salons and working on real paying clients. This will give you invaluable real salon experience alongside building-up your practical and theoretical knowledge so – when the time comes for you to enter the world of work – your CV will stand-out from the crowd who may have no actual salon experience.

Course Details

Depending on the qualification you choose, you complete between six and nine mandatory units and a range of optional units. Mandatory units include:

  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Cut hair using basic techniques.
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work

Optional units include:

  • Plait and twist hair
  • Fulfil salon reception duties.
  • Perm and neutralise hair

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Your performance will be monitored throughout the programme by our trainers through practical demonstrations, observations, assignments and theory work. If you need to incorporate functional skills (English and Maths) into your training, you can choose how and when you would like to take your exam(s).

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. However, if you do not hold a GCSE grade C/4 in English and Maths, we will incorporate English and/or Maths functional skills or GCSEs into your training.

Your next steps...

Upon successful completion of your study programme, you can work towards the next level (up to level 3) either remaining on a study programme within the Academy or by moving over to an apprenticeship in a local salon or spa. Alternatively, you could look at expanding your skillset with a complementary apprenticeship such as Customer Service.
