Course Summary

In Textiles you will develop creative skills across a broad range of textiles techniques including fashion textiles, costume design, Interior design, art textiles and constructed textiles. It provides students the chance to creatively engage with the world around them and develop their technical skills. The study of art and design Textiles equips students with transferable skills that will support them in both further study and a range of careers.

The course is very hands on and fast paced so requires a lot of commitment and dedication from students who are interested in developing their textiles skills. Creativity, organisation and focus throughout the course is key.

Course Details

Year 12 - Portfolio Project

Students will build their skills and produce practical and critical/contextual work in one or more areas of study, for example, fashion design, fashion textiles, costume design, digital textiles, printed and/or dyed fabrics and materials, domestic textiles, wallpaper, interior design, constructed textiles, art textiles and installed textiles. It provides students the chance to creatively engage with the world around them and developing their technical skills.

Students will then lead onto producing a Personal Investigation with a related study worth 60% of the overall grade.

Year 13 - Externally Set Task: Based on a series of set themes provided by AQA.

In Year 13, students are encouraged to specialise within certain textile areas of interest based on their experiences in Year 12 to produce a personal and in-depth controlled assignment based from one of the themes set by AQA.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Yr12: 100% Externally Set Task

Yr13: 60% Coursework 40% Externally Set Task

Regular tutorials, assessment and personalised written feedback is given to all students.

Entry requirements

6 grade 5s (or equivalent), including at least a grade 5 in English Language or Literature.

5 or above in a Design / Art based subject or an interview to look at a portfolio of work.
