Course Summary
We've been delivering Land-based courses at our stunning 850-acre Brooksby College site or generations, so where better to begin the first steps into your Horticultural career?
With a range of exciting career opporunities from Garden Design to Sports Turf Management to Plant Science, and everything in between, now is the perfect time to get into the Horticultural industry.
This course is fully funded for 16-18 year old learners. If you're over 19 and interested in studying this course, please get in touch at enquiries@smbgroup.ac.uk as you may also be eligible for funding (conditions apply).
Course Details
Modules include:
Health and safety
An introduction to plant and soil science
A horticulture work placement
Establishing and maintaining plants and seeds
Land-based machine operations
Estate maintenance
Maintaining soft landscapes
Maintenance of sports turf
Nursery stock production
Propagation techniques
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English OR a Level 1 Land-Based qualification and GCSE English (or equivalent) at grade 3 or above
Your next steps...
Our Horticulture students have gone on to secure jobs as landscapers, nursery and garden centre managers, gardeners, grounds-keepers, estates managers and even plant breeders. Pathways include hard and soft landscaping, garden design, production and retail, and sports turf. Upon successful completion of this Level 2 course, students may progress onto a Level 3 Land-based course at Brooksby. Alternatively, students may wish to continue onto an apprenticeship or into employment within the industry.
