Course Summary

The T Level, Level 3 Media, Broadcast and Production (content creation pathway) course is designed to bridge the gap between skills development, the creative mind, and being prepared for industry work.

Building on the strengths of traditional Art focussed film qualifications, this new approach (equivalent in size and academic demand to three A Levels) is designed to create wider opportunities for learners to progress into a broader media sector than previously offered.

Successful applicants will be mentored through all the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to successfully research, plan and evaluate professional media content. Working in partnership with local businesses to meet local skills needs.

This course is best suited to learners who are motivated across media specialisms, such as advertisement, marketing, promotional videos and short narrative productions. The qualification is assessed via work placement and exams across two years, and is aimed at those who are seeking a rigorous qualification aligned with professional media practice.

This two-year, full-time course is made up of three key components:

  • Core Knowledge
  • Core Skills
  • Work Placement

Learners study how and why short/long form media content is created to promote, advertise, inform, and/or educate the general public, often as part of wider media campaigns. This approach reflects industry practice and supports progression into freelance/self-employment roles within content creation.

Practical activities are used to support understanding, and assessment is focussed across work placements and on written/practical examinations designed to explore the learner’s ability to analyse briefs, audiences and content strategies.

Practical skills are delivered and supported via workshops, which introduce learners to activities such as camera operation and video editing techniques. However, practice-based learning is supported via industry placements while allowing the course to provide an opportunity to study the detailed content relative to how the creative media industry works.

The study programme includes a mandatory industry placement of approximately 315 hours over two years, with the college working to arrange relevant workplace shadowing opportunities within media-related organisations.
