Course Summary

During this course, you will develop your work and social skills whilst also gaining a maths and English qualification. This course will be perfect for you if you are leaving full-time education and starting on your journey into further education, helping you with the transition to from your current school or environment. We provide opportunities for you to expand your skills and enable you to progress further to vocational courses, training or employment. We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment and aim to help you make the most of your learning opportunities. We want to ensure that students with disabilities, including learning disabilities, feel welcome and supported throughout their time at college.

Course Details

You will work towards improving your maths and English at a level that is right for you as well as have the opportunity to develop your ICT skills. You will take part in our work experience programme, which focuses on fundraising, volunteering and enterprise projects that will help you to make decisions for your future and build your CV. There will also be the option to take part in sports, drama or multimedia activities. How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are no formal assessment criteria, regular attendance on all your college days is a necessity.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but you will need to complete an application form, submit satisfactory references and come for an interview. During your interview, you will meet a member of our team who will give you the opportunity to talk about your future aspirations and any support needs you require. We will need to see your learning disability assessment or your Education Health and Care plan (EHCP).

Your next steps...

At the end of the course, you will be invited to a review where your progress and aspirations are discussed. Subject to satisfactory attendance and progress you will have the opportunity to apply to the Employability and Personal Development year 2 course within supported learning that will help you to further develop your work experience and employability skills. You will also have the opportunity to apply to further courses within the College that match your future aspirations or work-based courses within supported learning. Throughout your time on the course, you will have regular opportunities to meet with your key worker to discuss additional support and development needs.
