Course Summary
This course is the starting point if you are looking to pursue a career in law but do not have the entry requirements to do a level 3 in law and business.
Designed to give you a good understanding of the law and business environment, the course will cover topics ranging from English Legal Systems and Employment Law to Business Finance. This course will give you the initial groundwork to enable you to progress onto level 3 or into employment/apprenticeship.
You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.
If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
Course Details
During this one year course, you will take one mandatory unit along with five optional units.
The compulsory unit is investigating a career.
The optional units you will study on the course are English Legal System, Managing People, General Defences, Human Resources and Property Offences.

Assessment for the course is coursework only, across a variety of assessment methods.
Entry requirements
The course requires you to have 4 GCSEs including both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above, a 90% attendance rate from your last place of work or study is desirable and one reference from your last place of study or work.
Your next steps...
If you gain a merit and your attendance is over 90% you can progress on to the level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Business and Law or T Levels in Legal Studies or Business and Management.
Successful completion will also equip you for a career in a wide range of industries as law and business underpins most jobs and may lead to employment in the law, business, finance, administration, personnel, retailing, sales, marketing or accountancy sectors.
