Course Summary

This is an ideal course for those students who wish to access courses associated with DFN Project Search but may not be ready or confident.


Course Details

The course will use enterprise challenges, team- work enhancing activities and employability training to ensure students are ready to undertake Entry to Work - DFN Project Search course at Gateway College in the following year. Students will continue to develop their Maths and English skills through Functional Skills or Life Skills Challenge accreditations.

The students have 2 days a week at college and the learning will cover:

  • Health and safety
  • Interview skills
  • CV Writing
  • Dress to Impress
  • Communication skills
  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Travel training
  • Team working
  • Setting up an enterprise
  • Units from DFN Project Search: Lessons for living, learning and earning

There will be two one-week placements organised by Leicestershire Enterprise and Business Company. Students can self-select areas of their interest. As part of the course, there will be longer term placements planned throughout the year, at organisations such as:

  • Co-op
  • Emerald Centre
  • Scraptoft Valley Primary School
  • SCOPE
  • Gateway College: Learning Resource Centre
  • Gateway College: IT Assistant

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course is assessed by the combination of the work placements and the tasks undertaken during the learning time at college.

Entry requirements

  • No formal qualifications are needed
  • You must have an EHCP/SEND
  • You must be willing to undertake travel training or be travel trained
  • You must want to gain employment and join the DFN Project Search course
