Course Summary
The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up is a qualification which will provide you with a range of essential technical and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the make-up industry. It is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years. You don�t need any previous knowledge or experience to start this qualification.
You will study the skin and underlying structures so you are able to choose and use appropriate products, gain a clear understanding of the principles of researching for make-up artistry designs, explore your own creativity and imagination, and learn how to create mood boards and face and hair charts from information gathered. The makeup unit will help you to develop knowledge of skin tones, face shapes and provide you with a wide range of application techniques to create total looks for models and clients, also intruction to enable to communicate with clients to give advice on application techniques.
Hair artistry covers the fundamental skills for creating hairstyles to complement and complete looks and allow you to experiment with different techniques, products, tools, and equipment.
Course Details
This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the make-up industry, during which you will learn how to comply with relevant legislation and work professionally, following safe working practices, covering units such as:
- Apply make-up
- The art of photographic make-up
- Instruction on Make-up application
- The art of dressing hair
- Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector, plaiting and twisting hair, shampoo and condition the hair and scalp, face body art design. This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the make-up industry, during which you will learn how to comply with relevant legislation and work professionally, following safe working practices, covering units such as:

How will it be delivered and assessed?
This course is an approximate split of 60% practical and 40% theory. There is anatomy-based knowledge that needs to be learnt and understood in order to complete practical and pass this qualification.
You will be assessed through a range of practical assessment techniques, observations, and online multiple choice question papers.
Entry requirements
It is desirable that you can demonstrate good attendance. A GCSE/or equivalent in both English (minimum) at grade 3 and maths at grade 3 (desirable) or above. Evidence of 'Creative ability/dexterity' skills is required.
You may be required to study English and maths alongside your course to achieve grade 4 in order to progress to level 3. You will also be required to complete 20 hours of external work experience and an employer involvement programme.

This qualification could lead to a job as a make-up artist working in one of the following establishments: photographic studios, department stores, make-up stores, salons or you could also work as a freelance bridal make-up artist.
