Course Summary

This qualification provides learners with the knowledge and skills relating to the care and education of children aged 0–11 years 11 months. Specifically designed to support learners to progress onto Level 3 qualifications across a number of sectors, such as Early Years Education and Supporting Teaching and Learning, such as the Education and Childcare T Level.

Course Details

The course is made up of 6 units and aims to provide an introduction at Level 2 for learners into both early years and primary settings. Our object is to support learners as they develop their knowledge, understanding and skills when caring for and supporting the learning and development of children aged 0–11 years 11 months.
This qualification requires learners to undertake at least 200 hours of work placement.
Grading – Pass/Merit/Distinction.

Modules:
Unit 01 – Child development from birth to 11 years 11 months
Unit 02 – Play and learning
Unit 03 – Exploring legislation
Unit 04 – The role of the childcare practitioner
Unit 05 – Nutrition
Unit 06 – Physical development and physical activity.

The course will also cover:
NCFE Level 2 Award in Babysitting
CL2A4 – Accident prevention and fire safety when babysitting
CL2A5 – Caring for young children in a babysitting environment
CL2A3 – Craft activities with young children (Optional unit)
Along with a 6 hour Paediatric first aid course.  

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above to include grade 3s in English and maths.

Your next steps...

Successful completion of the course would enable the learner to apply for Level 3 Childcare qualification and other Level 3 qualifications relating to childcare (subject to Maths and English grades) or gain employment in a supervised role. Possible job roles include Nursery Assistant, Pre-school Assistant or Classroom Assistant in the private, statutory or voluntary sector.
