Course Summary
Following on from your studies on the level 3 Foundation Diploma, this course enables you to 'top-up' to an Extended Diploma; the equivalent of 3 A-levels.
This course is ideal for those who wish to continue their studies at university.
This extended diploma will allow you to deepen your understanding of the travel and tourism industry by exploring specialist areas.
If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above.
You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.
If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.
Course Details
During the year you will explore business-related areas of the travel and tourism industry with units on marketing and examining the UK as a tourist destination.
You will investigate specialist areas such as managing accommodation and also conduct your own research project on a current travel and tourism trend.
In preparation for building a successful career within the industry, you will also study a unit on recruitment and selection, providing you with real-life experiences of different job interview formats. During the year you will explore business-related areas of the travel and tourism industry with units on marketing and examining the UK as a tourist destination.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed through a combination of assignments, live projects, presentations, and displays.
Entry requirements
Entry to this course requires the successful completion of the level 3 Foundation Diploma in Travel and Tourism including all 4 mandatory units;
The World of Travel and Tourism
Global Destinations
Managing the Customer Experience
Travel and Tourism Enterprises
and two optional units - Visitor Attractions and Work Experience.
You will also need 95% attendance at your last place of work or study, and 5 GCSEs including English and maths at grade 4 or above.
Your next steps...
Following successful completion, you will have the opportunity to enrol on our Foundation Degree in Tourism and Events Management. This programme will put you on the path to a full BA (Hons) degree.
Alternatively, you may choose to study at university somewhere else in the UK or even abroad. Past students have gone on to study at Manchester, Sheffield Birmingham and Liverpool universities on courses such as Airport Management, Events Management and International Travel and Tourism.
Or perhaps you'll feel ready for the world of work and be keen to take that first step on the career ladder. Completing this course could lead to employment in visitor attractions, tour operations, airport ground handling or working abroad as a resort rep.
