A Level: Film Studies

Film Studies is designed to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film. You will study film as a medium, art form and as a social and economic institution. The course will develop skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection. You will engage with a wide variety of films. Assessment: AS level FM1: Coursework (40%) Micro Analysis, Practical Application of Learning, FM2: Examination (60%) Film Industry, British Film, US Film. A2 level FM3: Coursework (50%) Small scale research project, Practical Application of Learning, FM4 Examination (50%) World cinema, Spectatorship, Close Study Film.

Grade 5 or above in English Literature.

You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Media or English, to prepare for higher education in related courses or more general higher education courses. With Further training, you could go into a job related to film such as working within a Film or TV Crew. The course also helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the media and production industries.
