Course Summary
You will learn how to construct explanations of the past through analysing and evaluating historical sources. In year 12 you will learn about the Russian Revolutions (1900-1921) and the impact of war on Britain between1900-2007. In Year 13 you will study debates about the Holocaust and complete a personal study. Assessment: AS – 2 exams (90 minutes each) (50%) A Level – 1 (30%) Controlled Assessment 1 - Coursework Unit (20%) plus AS content.
Course Details
The subject of History is undergoing some exciting changes, meaning you will have the opportunity to study some new topics covering at least 200 years of History.
History is a fascinating subject which helps you to make sense of the past and its connections to the present thereby helping to understand the world we live in.
The subject also enables you to develop valuable and transferable skills such as literacy, organising and planning research, analysis and evaluation.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
AS:
• Britain 1930 to 1997 with an enquiry topic on Churchill will be assessed in examination.
• Russia 1894 to 1941 will be assessed in examination
A2:
• Popular Culture and the Witchcraze of the 16th and 17th Centuries.
• Historical enquiry coursework unit with a focus on the Third Reich or the Holocaust.
Entry requirements
Must gain a Grade 5 or above in GCSE Geography/History.
