A Level: Media Studies (Eduquas)

A LEVEL Media Studies explores in depth study of media products in relation to five areas:

• media language • media representation • media industries • media audiences media contexts

You will study media products from all of the following media forms:

• audio-visual forms (TV, film, radio, advertising and marketing, video games and music video)

• online forms (social and participatory media, video games, music video, newspapers, magazines, advertising and marketing)

• print forms (newspapers, magazines, advertising and marketing)

As part of your coursework, you will produce two media products which could be anything from a music video and a website to a magazine cover and an online advertising campaign.

In year 13 you will research a media topic of your choice and write a detailed essay about htis area. You will then produce a production piece related to this which can be done individually or in groups

30% coursework, 70% exam.

Grade 5 in GCSE English Literature and Grade 5 in Media Studies if taken.

The course develops a range of skills which are an excellent foundation for further study at University or an FE College. Students wishing to pursue a career in TV or film production, script writing, journalism, public relations, marketing and a wide range of other media careers will learn essential skills from this course
