Course Summary
The specification provides a balance between the practical and the theoretical aspects of the subject. You will read, analyse and act from recognised texts. You will also have the opportunity to develop your own work through improvisation and other theatrical techniques. In year 12 you will perform an extract from a set text and devise a piece based on the set text. You will also study the work of two recognised practitioners and review a live production. In year 13 you will respond practically to a set theme. You will study two set texts (one pre 20th Century) from the standpoint of a director, actor and as a member of the audience. Assessment: Component 1 reinterpretation task (40%), Component 2 practical and process report (40%), Component 3 Written exam (40%). This is a full A Level and does not run as an AS.

Grade 5 in English Literature.

You could take this course with other advanced level courses, which could be related to the performing arts, to prepare for higher education in the arts or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to the performing arts such as working in the Film, Television or Theatre industries.
