Course Summary
Core Maths is a Level 3 qualification and is equivalent in size to an AS level. However, it is distinct from AS Mathematics as learners consolidate mathematical techniques that can be directly applied to a range of real-life contexts. We strongly recommend Core Maths to any students that are not taking AS Level Maths but are doing AS levels in any sciences, humanities, business or IT subjects as the course will prepare you for some of the mathematical demands of these courses.
Course Details
This engaging and relevant qualification will improve your mathematical knowledge and show you how to apply it in real-world contexts. It will prepare you for professional training or higher education courses, or equip you to apply for employment or higher apprenticeships in a wide range of industry sectors. It will support your progression by preparing you for the mathematics requirements of a number of higher education courses. Course content includes analysis of data, maths for personal finance, estimation and analysis of data and models. There is no new geometry or algebra content.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Core Maths is a 2-year option, which sits alongside your 3 or more AS Levels. There will be multiple taught lessons with homework each week and final exams at the end of the course.

Maths will improve your chances of attaining the top grades in the A-Levels that contain challenging mathematical content and will equip you well for further studies in these areas at university. Some universities lower their entry requirements on relevant courses for students that have a Core Maths qualification. As well as university the course will equip you to apply for employment or higher apprenticeships in a wide range of industry sectors and professional training.
